Welcome to the enhanced Online Cenotaph website - our digital social space where enthusiasts, families, and researchers can share their interconnecting experiences of New Zealand servicemen and women.
To coincide with the First World War Centenary commemorations, Online Cenotaph has been redeveloped in collaboration with the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, with new content contributed by Auckland Libraries.

New Zealand Service Records online
Archives New Zealand and the National Library have made available individual WW1 records of their servicemen and women. A centenary website gives you all the links to the relevant records.
A handful of men from Essendon and Flemington joined the NZEF, and you can find them using the tage NZEF on the Empire Called website.

Auckland War Memorial Museum
Things have been a little quiet lately as I have been on a cruise around New Zealand. While in Auckland I checked out the Auckland War Memorial Museum, an attractive building with an impressive gallery of New Zealand's war dead named on marble walls, as well as interesting exhibitions of war time memorabilia.

Auckland War Memorial Museum - Cenotaph Database
This very useful database has an "Advanced Search" option which allows you to search by keywords, including the addresses of the Next of Kin - handy for those who came across from Australia and served with New Zealand Forces. Thanks to Jenny for that little tip. I've found some interesting records by putting Essendon or Flemington in the advanced search.
