Australian WW1 Records Finder

Tim Sherratt has wiled away a few idle hours by creating an "aggregated search interface" to search a range of Australian WW1 records from different agencies.    See his blog post on the process, and what the search engine does. Or if you can't wait, go straight to the "interface".

Thanks Tim for the productive trip.     Thanks Linda for the tip!

An underage soldier

Troops waiting to board the Demosthenes on 16 July 1915.
Private Albert Newell may have been amongst this group of troops waiting to board the Demosthenes in 1915.  Albert was underage when he enlisted, and like many other underage soldiers struggled with military discipline.  Newell's service record was spanned by several gaol sentences, and at one point managed to have himself sentenced to death.  See Albert's story here.

Because I don't know my elbow from my foot on the subject of badges of rank, I had a little look around the interwebs and found this useful site offered by Lawrence Ordnance Pty Ltd. blog

The page above blog has a series of posts with examples of badges, rank insignia, etc.
